Most parents live in denial when issues relating to drug/substance abuse are raised. Some would say “it is not my portion”. “Some others, “my child can never do drugs”. Well, no one prays for such disastrous experience. Every parent wants the best for his or her children; for that reason, they go all out to do their best to ensure they, the children, get good grades, and also get the best out of life.
But in the process of trying to make the best out of their lives, some out of pressure from academic activities or other external influences inadvertently experiment with substance they believe could help relieve their stress.
Research has shown that most drug users or substance abusers did not deliberately indulge in it. Some, apart from peer influence, indulge in it through intake of normal prescription drugs that cause changes they never expected, some through socially acceptable drugs like alcohol, cigarette, Benylin syrup etc.
The aim of this campaign is to let parents/guardians know that the earlier they start probing, talking and listening to their children at the early stage of their lives the better for the family and the society at large. Drug problem is a social problem that goes beyond the immediate family. Therefore, don’t say it does not concern me.
It is said that drug abuse, like habit, can be compared to a warm bed in cold weather that is easy to get into but difficult to get out of. SAY NO TO DRUGS!!
